Walmart Marketplace Fees Explained

Short answer: Walmart Marketplace charges no monthly fee and a referral fee only when an item sells — 15% in most categories, 8% for Consumer Electronics and Camera and Photo, 6% for Personal Computers, and 20% on the first $250 for Jewelry and Precious Metals. The fee applies to the total sales price, including shipping the buyer pays.

How the referral fee works

Every item Walmart lists for you carries a contract category, assigned during item setup based on the product type. That category sets the referral fee percentage. The fee is a percentage of the total sales price: item price plus shipping and handling, gift wrap and other charges. Walmart deducts it from your payout, so you never pay it on items that do not sell. There is no separate per-item closing fee and no monthly subscription on top.

Worked example

A $40 home item with $5 shipping charged: the total sales price is $45.00, and Home, Kitchen, Decor and Garden pays 15%, so the referral fee is $6.75. You keep $45.00 − $6.75 = $38.25 before product cost and your own shipping cost. Compare a $120 jewelry item with free shipping: Jewelry and Precious Metals pays 20% on the portion up to $250, so the fee is 20% of $120.00 = $24.00. And an $18 apparel item: Apparel and Accessories pays 10% between $15 and $20, so the fee is $1.80 — a reminder that a price a few dollars either side of a threshold changes the rate, not just the base.

Category rates to know

Consumer Electronics, Camera and Photo, and Major Appliances sit at 8%. Personal Computers sit at 6%. Automotive and Powersports and Industrial and Scientific Supplies sit at 12%. Baby Products and Beauty, Health and Personal Care pay 8% up to $10 and 15% above $10. Grocery pays 8% up to $15 and 15% above $15. Collectibles for approved sellers pay 8% up to $2,500 and 2.35% above that for trading cards, trading card games, comics, coins, autographed collectibles and collectible ephemera. Everything Else pays 15%.

What else can cost money

Walmart Fulfillment Services adds per-unit fulfillment fees by weight and size plus monthly storage if Walmart stores and ships your inventory — optional, since self-fulfilling sellers pay only the referral fee. Walmart Connect advertising is optional and charged separately. Returns handling and any promotional funding you agree to are also outside the referral fee, so a margin check that stops at the referral rate will overstate profit on any item with steady returns or ad spend.

FAQs

Does Walmart charge a monthly seller fee?

No. Walmart Marketplace has no setup fee and no monthly subscription. You pay a referral fee only when an item sells, plus fulfillment fees if you use Walmart Fulfillment Services and advertising costs if you run ads.

What is the referral fee charged on?

On the total sales price, which includes the item price plus shipping and handling, gift wrap and other charges the buyer pays. A $25 item with $5 shipping pays its referral fee on $30.

What is the most common referral rate?

15%, which covers Home, Kitchen, Decor and Garden, Books, Toys, Pet Supplies and the general Everything Else category, among others. Lower rates apply in several categories, so check your contract category rather than assuming 15%.

Which categories have tiered referral rates?

Apparel and Accessories (5% up to $15, 10% from $15 to $20, 15% above $20), Jewelry and Precious Metals (20% up to $250, 5% above $250), Watches (15% up to $1,500, 3% above $1,500), and several others including Baby, Beauty, Grocery and Furniture, each with its own price thresholds.

How do I find my item's contract category?

In Seller Center, open the Statements page. The contract category column shows the category Walmart assigned to each item, and the commission rate column shows the referral fee percentage applied. If an item looks miscategorised, you can dispute the fee.
