Seller Fees Comparison Calculator

Put one sale price into four marketplaces at once — Poshmark, Mercari, Whatnot and eBay — and see which one leaves you the most profit.

—

Each profit figure is the sale price minus that marketplace's fee minus your item cost. It answers 'where should I list this item?' rather than 'what do I keep on one platform?' — but it is before shipping, packaging and any promotion spend, which can change the ranking.

Formula

Poshmark fee = $2.95 if the price is under $15, otherwise 20% of the price. Mercari fee = 10% of the price. Whatnot fees = 8% commission on the item price + 2.9% of the order total + $0.30. eBay fee = 13.6% of the price + $0.40 per order (most categories, no Store). Profit on each = sale price − fee − item cost.

How it works

Enter one sale price and your item cost, and the calculator applies each marketplace's published fee rule to the same sale. Whatnot's processing fee uses the order total, so add any buyer-paid shipping in the third field; the other three fees here are calculated on the item price (Mercari's real fee base also includes buyer-paid shipping — see the note below).

Worked example

Sale price $50.00, item cost $15.00. Poshmark: 20% = $10.00 fee, profit $25.00. Mercari: 10% = $5.00 fee, profit $30.00. Whatnot: 8% commission $4.00 plus processing 2.9% of $50.00 ($1.45) plus $0.30 = $5.75 total, profit $29.25. eBay: 13.6% ($6.80) plus $0.40 = $7.20 fee, profit $27.80. On these defaults Mercari leaves the most, before shipping and packaging.

FAQs

Why does Mercari win in the example?
Because 10% is the lowest headline fee of the four on a $50 item. At prices under $15 the ranking changes, since Poshmark switches to a flat $2.95 and eBay still adds $0.40.

Does Mercari really charge only 10% of the item price?
Mercari's fee base is the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping. This comparison calculates Mercari on the item price only, so if the buyer pays shipping, add 10% of that shipping to the Mercari fee.

Why is Whatnot split into two fees?
Whatnot charges commission on the item price only, but payment processing on the total order value (item plus buyer-paid shipping and tax). That is why the shipping field matters for Whatnot and not for the others here.

Does an eBay Store change this comparison?
Yes — a Basic Store or above pays 12.7% instead of 13.6% in most categories, plus a monthly subscription. Use the eBay Store Subscription Calculator to test whether the subscription pays for itself at your volume.

Are audience and sale speed included?
No. A lower fee on a marketplace where the item sits unsold is worth less than a higher fee where it sells this week. Treat this as a fee comparison, not a listing recommendation.
