Mercari Fees Explained
Short answer: Mercari charges sellers a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping. Listing is free, and there is no separate seller payment processing fee on current listings.
Stand: October 2026. Source: Mercari Help — Fees on Mercari. The 10% structure applies to listings created or updated on or after January 6, 2025.
The fee in one line
Selling fee — 10% of (item price + buyer-paid shipping). No listing fee, no monthly fee, and no separate seller payment processing fee on current listings.
Buyers separately pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the same base (item price + buyer-paid shipping). That buyer fee is not a seller deduction, but it does raise what the buyer pays at checkout.
Worked example
A $40 item with $6.00 buyer-paid shipping. Fee base = $40.00 + $6.00 = $46.00.
Selling fee: 10% x $46.00 = $4.60. Amount before your own costs = $46.00 - $4.60 = $41.40. If you instead paid for the shipping label yourself, that label cost would come out of the $41.40 as well, so free shipping costs you twice over: once in the label, and once in the fee only if the buyer paid it — here the buyer paid it, so the fee already includes it.
For comparison, the same $40 item with no buyer-paid shipping pays 10% x $40.00 = $4.00, keeping $36.00 before costs.
Formula
Selling fee = 10% x (item price + buyer-paid shipping). Payout before your costs = (item price + buyer-paid shipping) - selling fee - any label cost you chose to pay yourself.
How it works
Mercari's fee is the same in every category, which makes pricing simple — but the shipping trap still applies. Charging the buyer for shipping raises the fee base, while offering free shipping leaves the fee on the item price alone and moves the label cost onto you. Compare both versions before you choose, and do not rely on old articles that call Mercari fee-free: that structure ended in January 2025.
