eBay Fees by Category
Short answer: Most US eBay categories pay 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% above that, plus $0.30 or $0.40 per order. Books, movies and music pay 15.3%, and several categories have their own tiers — always check your exact category.

How the fee is built
Final value fee = category rate x total amount of the sale + per-order fee. The per-order fee is $0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10.00. The first 250 listings each month are free of insertion fees; after that, most listings cost $0.35 each.
Fees by category (US, no Store)
Most categories: 13.6% up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% above $7,500.
Books & Magazines, Movies & TV (except Movie NFTs), Music (except Vinyl Records and Music NFTs): 15.3% up to $7,500, then 2.35% above.
Coins & Paper Money (except Bullion) and select trading-card categories: 13.25% up to $7,500, then 2.35% above. Bullion pays 13.6% up to $7,500 and 7% above.
Women's Bags & Handbags: 15% up to $2,000, then 9% above $2,000.
Jewelry & Watches (except Watches, Parts & Accessories): 15% up to $5,000, then 9% above $5,000.
Guitars & Basses: 6.7% up to $7,500, then 2.35% above.
Athletic shoes at $150 or more: 8%, with no per-order fee. Below $150, the most-categories rate of 13.6% applies.
NFT categories listed by eBay: 5%.
Heavy equipment and similar listed Business & Industrial categories: 3% up to $15,000, then 0.5% above.

Worked example
A most-category item sold for $50.00, with $5.00 shipping charged to the buyer and $4.40 sales tax (8% of $55.00). Total amount of the sale = $50.00 + $5.00 + $4.40 = $59.40.
Final value fee: 13.6% x $59.40 = $8.08 (rounded). Per-order fee: $0.40, because the order is over $10. Total eBay fees: $8.08 + $0.40 = $8.48. Note that the $4.40 tax is collected for the tax authority, not kept by the seller, yet it still sits inside the fee base.
Formula
Final value fee = category rate x (item price + handling + buyer-paid shipping + sales tax) + per-order fee, with the lower tier rate applied only to the portion above the category threshold.

Frequently asked questions
What is eBay's final value fee for most categories?
For US sellers without a Store, most categories pay 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% on the portion above $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less or $0.40 for orders over $10.
What does eBay count as the total amount of the sale?
The item price, any handling charges, any shipping costs collected from the buyer (with some exceptions), sales tax, and any other applicable fees. That is why the fee is usually higher than 13.6% of the item price alone.
Do books really pay a higher rate than most categories?
Yes. Books and Magazines, Movies and TV (except Movie NFTs) and Music (except Vinyl Records and Music NFTs) pay 15.3% up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% above that, plus the per-order fee.
Is there a separate payment processing fee on eBay?
No. eBay states that the final value fee replaces third-party payment processing, so there is no separate PayPal-style processing charge on top of it.
What is the international fee?
If you are not using eBay International Shipping and the buyer is outside the US, eBay charges an additional 1.65% of the total amount of the sale. Using eBay International Shipping on eligible listings avoids that international fee.
