Published guides checked against TikTok Shop Seller University in October 2026 list 6% for most categories and 5% for some jewelry and pre-owned categories, while some trade reports claim an increase to around 8% for most non-food categories in August 2026. Formula
Effective price = list price × (1 − discount rate). Revenue = effective price × units sold. Live profit = revenue − (product cost × units) − (referral rate × revenue) − (affiliate rate × revenue) − ((shipping cost − subsidy per unit) × units).
How it works
Enter the units sold, list price, discount offered during the live, product cost, referral rate, affiliate rate, shipping cost and any shipping subsidy per unit. The calculator first applies the discount, then deducts every cost from the discounted revenue, so a deep live discount cannot hide behind the headline unit count.
Worked example
A live selling 120 units at a $30 list price with a 10% discount: effective price $27.00, revenue $3,240.00. Product cost $10 per unit = $1,200.00. Referral fee 6% of $3,240.00 = $194.40. Affiliate commission 15% of $3,240.00 = $486.00. Shipping $5.00 per unit with no subsidy = $600.00. Live profit = $3,240.00 − $1,200.00 − $194.40 − $486.00 − $600.00 = $759.60, a margin of 23.4% of revenue.
FAQs
Why does the discount matter so much in a live?
Fees and affiliate commission are calculated on the discounted price the buyer actually pays, but your product and shipping costs do not shrink with the discount. A 10% discount therefore cuts profit by more than 10%.
Should the affiliate rate be zero if I hosted the live myself?
Yes, if no affiliate creator drove the sales. Set the affiliate rate to 0% for a self-hosted live and the calculator shows profit without a creator cut.
What shipping subsidy should I enter?
Enter only a subsidy you currently receive. TikTok Shop ended its Co-Funded Free Shipping subsidies on May 29, 2025, so most sellers now enter $0 and absorb the full shipping cost.
Does this calculator include giveaway units?
No. Enter only paid units sold. Free giveaway units cost you product and shipping with no revenue, so add their cost separately if your live included giveaways.
What is a healthy live margin?
It depends on your return rate and ad spend, which this calculator leaves out. If the live margin is under 20% before returns, the live is unlikely to stay profitable once returns are counted.
