Listing Price Calculator

Enter what the item costs you, what shipping costs you, the total fee percentage and the profit you want to keep. The calculator gives the listing price that produces that profit.

—

This is the reverse of the price-to-profit calculator: instead of asking what profit a price gives, it asks what price a profit needs. The fee percentage is applied to the final price, so the formula has to solve for a price that covers its own fees.

Formula

Listing price = (product cost + shipping cost + target profit + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − total fee %). Check: price − costs − (price × fee %) − fixed fee = target profit.

How it works

Add up everything the price must cover except the percentage fees, then divide by one minus the fee rate. That division grosses the price up so that, once the percentage fees are taken out, exactly your target profit is left.

Worked example

Product cost $12.00, shipping $6.00, target profit $15.00, total fees 15.9% and a $0.30 fixed fee. Price = ($12.00 + $6.00 + $15.00 + $0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.159) = $33.30 ÷ 0.841 = $39.60. Check: $39.60 − $12.00 − $6.00 − $6.30 fees − $0.30 = $15.00 profit.

FAQs

What goes into the total fee percentage?

Add your marketplace fee percentage and your payment fee percentage together. For example, a 13% marketplace fee plus a 2.9% payment fee is 15.9%. Keep the fixed per-order fee in its own field.

Why not just add the fee percentage on top of my costs?

Because the fee is charged on the final price, not on your costs. Adding 15.9% to $33.30 gives $38.59, which leaves only about $14.18 after fees — short of a $15 target. Dividing by (1 minus the fee rate) is the correct gross-up.

What if my fee percentage is 100% or more?

No price can cover a fee of 100% or more of the price, so the calculator asks for a percentage below 100. If your combined fees ever look that high, re-check the inputs.

Should I round the price up?

Yes, to a price buyers expect — for example $39.99 instead of $39.60. Rounding up slightly raises profit; rounding down eats into it, so always round in your favour and re-check.

How is this different from the price-to-profit calculator?

That calculator starts from a price and finds the profit. This one starts from the profit you want and finds the price. Use this one when setting a new listing, and the other one when checking an existing price.
