Etsy Fees Explained

Short answer: On a standard US Etsy sale, expect a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping you charge, and a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee. On a $40 item with $6 shipping, that is $4.82 in fees before your product and shipping costs.

Stand: October 2026. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy. Etsy sets payment processing by bank country; the US rate is 3% + $0.25.

The fees on a US sale

Listing fee — $0.20. Charged per listing when published, again on renewal after four months, and again for each extra unit sold from a multi-quantity listing.

Transaction fee — 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap you charge. For US sellers it does not apply to sales tax.

Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 (US). Charged once per order on the total sale amount, including shipping and any sales tax collected.

Offsite Ads — 15% or 12%, capped at $100 per order. Only on orders attributed to an Etsy ad clicked within 30 days. Shops under $10,000 in the prior 365 days pay 15% and may opt out; shops at or above $10,000 pay 12% and must take part.

Currency conversion — 2.5%. Only if your listing currency differs from your payout currency. US sellers listing and paid in USD do not pay it.

Worked example

A $40 item with $6 shipping charged to the buyer, no Offsite Ad, no sales tax in this example:

Listing fee: $0.20
Transaction fee: 6.5% x $46.00 = $2.99
Payment processing: 3% x $46.00 + $0.25 = $1.38 + $0.25 = $1.63
Total Etsy fees: $0.20 + $2.99 + $1.63 = $4.82. The buyer paid $46.00, so $41.18 remains before your product cost, packaging and the shipping you actually pay.

Formula

Total Etsy fees = $0.20 + (6.5% x (item price + shipping charged + gift wrap)) + (3% x order total + $0.25), plus Offsite Ads if the order was ad-attributed.

How it works

Price from the order total, not just the item price. Because two of the three core fees touch shipping, free shipping is not free of fees: rolling shipping into the item price leaves the same fee base. Low-priced items feel the fixed $0.20 and $0.25 charges most, so check the fee share before listing a very cheap item.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take from a typical US sale?

On a standard US sale with no ads, Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap you charge, and a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee. Together that is roughly 10% of a typical order, more on low-priced items because of the fixed $0.20 and $0.25 charges.

Is the 6.5% transaction fee charged on shipping?

Yes. For US sellers it is charged on the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer. It is not charged on sales tax for US sellers. Moving cost from the item price into shipping does not avoid it.

What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?

Offsite Ads is charged only when an Etsy ad elsewhere leads to an order from your shop within 30 days. The fee is 15% of the attributed order if your shop made under $10,000 in the prior 365 days, and 12% once it has made $10,000 or more, capped at $100 per order.

Do I pay a listing fee if the item does not sell?

Yes. The $0.20 listing fee is charged when you publish or renew a listing, whether or not it sells. Listings expire after four months unless renewed.

Does Etsy charge a monthly fee?

No monthly fee is required to sell on Etsy. Etsy Plus is an optional $10 per month subscription with extra tools and credits; it is not required to list or sell.
