Wholesale Bulk Discount Calculator
Price quantity tiers for wholesale orders: see the unit price, order total and saving at each tier.
Formula
Unit price = base unit price × (1 − discount for the quantity tier). Order total = unit price × quantity. Saving = (base unit price × quantity) − order total. The discount tier is chosen by quantity: below tier 1 there is no discount, from tier 1 up to tier 2 the tier 1 discount applies, and from tier 2 upward the tier 2 discount applies.
How it works
Enter your base unit price, the order quantity, and two discount tiers with the quantity where each starts. The calculator picks the tier for that quantity and shows the unit price, the order total and the saving against full price, so you can check a tier still leaves room for profit.
Worked example
Base price $20.00, tier 1 of 10% from 50 units, tier 2 of 20% from 100 units, order of 120 units. The order reaches tier 2, so the unit price is $20.00 × (1 − 0.20) = $16.00. Order total is $16.00 × 120 = $1,920.00. At full price the order would be $2,400.00, so the buyer saves $480.00. Interpretation: the 20% tier is worth offering only if your unit cost is well below $16.00, since that is all you keep per unit at this quantity.
FAQs
How do quantity tiers work?
Each tier starts at a minimum quantity. An order that reaches a tier gets that tier's discount on every unit in the order, not only on the units above the threshold, unless your terms say otherwise.
Should the discount apply to all units or only extra units?
This calculator applies the tier discount to all units, which is the common wholesale tier setup. If your terms discount only units above a threshold, the saving will be smaller — state that clearly in your price list.
What if an order falls between tiers?
It takes the lower tier it has reached. An order of 75 units with tiers at 50 and 100 gets the tier 1 discount, not tier 2.
How do I know a tier is still profitable?
Compare the tier unit price with your full unit cost, including freight and packaging per unit. If the tier price is at or below that cost, the tier loses money no matter how large the order is.
Can I use more than two tiers?
Yes in your price list, but this calculator models two tiers to keep the result easy to check. Add a third tier by running the same formula with its discount and threshold.
