Shipping Profit Calculator

Work out whether the shipping you charge actually covers the label, packaging and platform fee — and what profit is left on the whole order.

—

Profit here means everything the buyer paid (item price plus shipping charged) minus everything the order cost you: the label, packaging, the item itself and any platform fees. The shipping net line isolates delivery alone, so you can see whether you are subsidizing shipping out of your item margin.

Formula

Profit = (sale price + shipping charged) − (label cost + packaging + item cost + other platform fees). Shipping net = shipping charged − label cost.

How it works

Enter what the buyer paid for the item and for shipping, then what delivery really cost you. Many sellers only compare the label with the shipping charged and forget packaging and fees — this calculator keeps all of them in one total, so a 'free shipping' listing shows its true cost too.

Worked example

Sale price $40.00 plus $8.00 shipping charged = $48.00 collected. Costs: $6.50 label + $1.00 packaging + $12.00 item cost + $4.00 platform fees = $23.50. Profit = $48.00 − $23.50 = $24.50, which is 51.0% of the amount collected. Shipping alone nets $8.00 − $6.50 = $1.50 before packaging.

FAQs

Should I charge the buyer exactly what the label costs?
Not necessarily. The label is only part of delivery cost — packaging, tape, mailers and any platform fee on shipping also come out of the order. Price shipping from your all-in delivery cost, not the label alone.

What if I offer free shipping?
Enter 0 for shipping charged. The label and packaging then come straight out of your item margin, so your sale price has to carry them.

Does this calculator include platform fees?
Only the flat amount you enter in 'other platform fees'. For a platform-fee breakdown, use the fee calculator for that marketplace and bring its result here.

Why is my shipping net positive but my order still unprofitable?
Because the item cost and platform fees can outweigh a small shipping surplus. Always judge the whole-order profit, not the shipping line alone.

How do I handle a package that weighs more than expected?
Re-weigh the packed parcel, not the bare item, and enter the label you actually bought. Dimensional weight can push the label above the shipping you charged.
