POD Etsy Profit Calculator

A POD item sold on Etsy pays two sets of costs: the print provider's, and Etsy's. This calculator stacks both so the profit left is real.

Formula

Order total = retail price + shipping charged to buyer. Etsy fees = $0.20 listing + 6.5% of order total + 3% of order total + $0.25 + Offsite Ads fee (15% or 12% of order total, capped at $100, $0 on an ordinary sale). Profit = order total − Etsy fees − base cost − fulfillment shipping.

How it works

Enter the retail price and the shipping the buyer pays, then your provider's base cost and fulfillment shipping for the item. Choose whether the sale came through an Offsite Ad. The calculator applies Etsy's fees to the order total (price plus shipping charged), then subtracts the provider costs, leaving profit per item.

Worked example

Retail price $30.00 with $10.00 shipping charged, base cost $9.25 and fulfillment shipping $4.75, no Offsite Ad: order total $40.00. Listing fee $0.20. Transaction fee 6.5% of $40.00 = $2.60. Payment processing 3% of $40.00 = $1.20, plus $0.25 = $1.45. Total Etsy fees $0.20 + $2.60 + $1.45 = $4.25. Profit $40.00 − $4.25 − $9.25 − $4.75 = $21.75 per item. The Etsy rates are Etsy's published fees; the $9.25 base cost and $4.75 shipping are Printful's published 2026 figures for a Gildan 5000 tee and starting US shirt shipping.

FAQs

How is this different from the Etsy fee calculator?

The Etsy fee calculator shows Etsy's fees alone. This page adds the print provider's base cost and fulfillment shipping, so the result is the profit you keep on a POD item sold through Etsy, not just what Etsy takes.

Why are Etsy fees charged on shipping too?

Etsy charges the 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing percentage on the price you display plus the shipping you charge the buyer. Charging more for shipping raises the fee base, it does not move shipping outside the fees.

When does the Offsite Ads fee apply?

Only when a buyer clicks an Etsy ad shown on another site and buys from your shop within 30 days. Shops under $10,000 in Etsy sales over the past 365 days pay 15% and may opt out; shops at or above $10,000 pay 12% and cannot opt out. The fee is capped at $100 per order.

Does this include the listing renewal fee?

The $0.20 listing fee is included once per item sold, which matches a sale that renews the listing. A listing that sits unsold for four months renews at $0.20 whether or not it sells, and that renewal cost is not in this per-sale calculation.

What if my payment account is outside the US?

The listing and transaction fees work the same way, but the payment processing rate varies by the country of your payment account. Replace the 3% plus $0.25 figure with your own rate, or use the other fees approach on the POD profit calculator.

The US payment processing rate of 3% plus $0.25 is Etsy's published US rate; Etsy states the processing rate varies by country, so non-US sellers should use their own rate.
