Handmade Etsy Pricing Calculator
Price a handmade Etsy listing so that, after every Etsy fee, your material, labor and overhead costs — plus any profit you choose — are still covered.
Formula
Selling price = (material + hourly labor rate × hours + overhead + desired profit + $0.20 listing fee + $0.25 payment fixed charge) ÷ (1 − 6.5% transaction − 3% payment processing − Offsite Ads rate, or 0 for an ordinary sale). The Offsite Ads fee is capped at $100 per order, so on very high prices the solved price is approximate and you should check the capped fee separately. Treat the selling price here as the total the buyer pays for item plus any shipping you charge, and include your shipping cost in overhead, because Etsy charges transaction and payment fees on the order total.
How it works
Enter your real handmade costs — material, labor time at your hourly rate, and overhead — plus any profit you want per item. Choose whether the sale came through an Offsite Ad. The calculator solves for the price at which Etsy fees, taken as percentages of that price, still leave your costs and profit intact, rather than adding a percentage on top of costs and hoping it covers the fees.
Worked example
Material $18.00, labor $25.00 × 2 hours = $50.00, overhead $6.00: total cost $74.00, desired profit $0.00, no Offsite Ad. Selling price = ($74.00 + $0.20 + $0.25) ÷ (1 − 0.065 − 0.03) = $74.45 ÷ 0.905 = $82.27. Check: transaction 6.5% of $82.27 = $5.35, payment processing 3% of $82.27 + $0.25 = $2.72, listing $0.20 — total fees $8.27, and $82.27 − $8.27 = $74.00, exactly your costs. Interpretation: $82.27 covers costs and fees with nothing left over, so set a profit above $0.00 if you want earnings from the sale.
FAQs
How is this different from the Etsy fee calculator?
The Etsy fee calculator starts from a price you already chose and shows what Etsy takes from it. This page starts from your handmade costs and solves for the price that covers those costs after Etsy fees.
Why does the price use division instead of adding the fee percentages?
Because Etsy fees are percentages of the selling price, not of your costs. Adding 9.5% to costs leaves a shortfall; dividing by (1 − fee rate) sets a price where the fee percentages of that price leave your costs intact.
When does the Offsite Ads fee apply?
Only when a buyer clicks an Etsy ad shown on another site and buys from your shop within 30 days. Shops under $10,000 in Etsy sales over the past 365 days pay 15% and may opt out; shops at or above $10,000 pay 12% and cannot opt out, with the fee capped at $100 per order.
What about shipping I charge the buyer?
Etsy charges its transaction and payment fees on the order total, including shipping you charge. Treat the price on this page as item plus shipping charged combined, and put your shipping cost in overhead.
Do the fees on this page match Etsy's published US rates?
Yes, for a US payment account: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, and 3% plus $0.25 payment processing. Payment processing varies by country, so non-US sellers should replace the 3% plus $0.25 figure with their own rate.
Stand: October 2026. Source: Etsy — Fees & Payments Policy.
Sources: Etsy Help — Fees for Selling on Etsy and Etsy Fees & Payments Policy. The US payment processing rate of 3% plus $0.25 is Etsy's published US rate; Etsy states the processing rate varies by country, so non-US sellers should use their own rate.
